RADIATION ONCOLOGY SERVICES
Toledo Radiation Oncology is the longest serving radiation oncology practice in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan. Each of our physicians are board certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and provide services at sites accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
ABOUT TOLEDO RADIATION ONCOLOGY
CARE. COMPASSION. RESULTS
Our founders came to Toledo in the 1970s from Stanford University, the site of many early breakthroughs in radiation oncology and where the first linear accelerator was built. Today, Toledo Radiation Oncology is the longest serving radiation oncology practice in northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan. Each of our physicians are board certified by the American Board of Radiology.
Our practice has grown in and served this region with radiation oncology services for over half a century. Drs. Gerald Marsa and Steven Zeidner came to Toledo in the mid 1970’s as the area’s first Board Certified Radiation Oncologists, and thus a separate Oncology Division was created within the existing radiology group. The practice steadily grew, and in 2000 the oncologists incorporated as Toledo Radiation Oncology.
Toledo Radiation Oncology, Inc. (TRO) is a group of board certified radiation oncologists specializing in the treatment of cancer patients with radiation. Radiotherapy is needed in managing nearly 2 out of every 3 cancers diagnosed, and is one of the three major cancer treatments (surgery and chemotherapy are the others).
There are TRO treatment facilities and clinics throughout northwest Ohio and southeastern Michigan. All treatment Centers are American College of Radiology (ACR) Accredited.
State of the art radiation oncology services are available, including linear accelerator external beam irradiation, 3-D planning, brachytherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), SpaceOAR Hydrogel, image guided radiation therapy (IGRT), intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), and radioactive isotope treatment. TRO physicians and our staff members take great pride in the care we give our patients and appreciate the trust that is placed in us.
Please ask your physicians if you or your loved one are eligible for these new forms of therapy.
Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
Focused treatment for tumors (most often lung/liver/bone); delivers a high biologic effective dose in 3-5 treatments
Precise, highly targeted treatment for small brain lesions
Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy
Modality that allows dose "shaping" to protect critical adjacent organs
Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)
Method that ensures the most accurate delivery of each radiation dose to the target
3-D Treatment Planning
Radiation to best cover tumor targets while lowering dose and thus risk of side effects to normal organs
Respiratory motion technique used to deliver radiotherapy while limiting radiation exposure to the heart and lungs during breast treatment.
High-Dose Rate Brachytherapy
Applicators are placed within target sites to allow for conformal dose delivery (gynecologic/breast)
A radioactive pill or intravenous treatments often used for thyroid cancer or bone metastasis
Face down positioning for breast cancer treatment that aides in improving precise dose delivery and minimizing side effects
Electron Beam Treatments
Excellent technique for delivery of radiation to superficially-located cancers
Patient Care Services
Nurse educator and patient education consults. Nutritionist consults. Social services referrals
Absorbable gel that may reduce side effects of rectal irritation during prostate radiotherapy.
